Job Shadow Packet Due On:

What is Job Shadowing?

A job shadow is a learning experience which takes place at a business of your choice in our community. It will last 7 hours. You will be excused from class during this time to complete this requirement.

During a job shadow, you will follow a worker (called your “host”) during a typical day at work. You will observe and ask questions about his/her duties. Completing written assignments will help you understand, think about, and record things you see, hear, and learn.

Why are Job Shadows Important?

Job shadows give you a chance to:

Ø Begin to identify career interests
Ø Observe the daily routine of workers
Ø Learn about the academic, technical, and personal skills required by particular jobs
Ø Practice communication skills by interacting with workers
Ø Realize that different jobs are characterized by different work cultures and working environments.
Ø Navigate the community by traveling to and from the job shadow location
Ø Understand the connection between school, work, and your goals for the future

How do You Make Job Shadows Happen?

x Obtain approval of shadow site from Ms. Smith
x Schedule the job shadow appointment with employer
x Arrange for transportation to and from the job site
x Complete the job shadowing contract and return to teacher
x Observe an employee in his/her chosen career area for 7 hours
x Gather information for reflection paper based on your experience
x Submit completed job shadowing unit assignments on time
